This is a mountain in my hometown. It has been my favorite mountain since I was a child ever since I heard the "Native American myth" about it, but the myth always changes depending on who you talk to. The story goes that there were two lovers, but because they were from different tribes, they couldn't be together. In fact the father of the maiden murdered the man she loved and because she was so devastated she killed herself. The Gods were displeased and they were so saddened that a woman so beautiful was so depressed that she'd do that to herself, so they laid her on top of the mountain...now the reason for why she was put up there is where the story changes...some say she's the guardian of the people. Some say the Gods put her in a deep sleep and when she is reunited with her loved one, she will wake up. Some say it's a reminder to all to allow your children to love who they choose. Some say the two lovers were in fact reunited in the next life and the Gods merged their hearts together within the mountain. (There's a cave in the mountain with a stalactite that looks like a giant heart called the Heart of Timpanogos).
Anyway, I always stare at the lady on the mountain even though technically you can see a woman laying on either side of the mountain with her hair draping down. I've always wanted to climb it. One day I will.
